This is a very personal piece, created for Lymphoma Awareness month in September (the awareness color for Hodgkin's Lymphoma is purple). There is no stock - I am the photographer, the model, the manipulator, the artist...and, most importantly, the survivor.
This is me, six months post-chemo. I was diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma last September and battled through with chemo and radiation. Today I am in remission and life is back to normal, except I'm a little stronger, a little wiser, and a lot more appreciative of family, friendship and all the small things that give us joy in life.
That is why I called this "Can't Take the Sky From Me" (yes, Firefly fans, I got it from the credit song...). Cancer can do a lot to you, but it can't take away your happiness and joie de vivre unless you let it. Getting cancer sucks, treatment sucks, you will be depressed and rail at the universe, but when it is over, take with you only the lessons and leave behind the fear and depression.
Please fav and spread the word - research and education are key in eradicating lymphoma and other cancers. For every fav, I will donate 10 cents to the Lymphoma Research Foundation.
------------------------- About 74,030 people living in the United States will be diagnosed with lymphoma in 2010 (8,490 cases of Hodgkin lymphoma and 65,540 cases of Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma). To learn more abut Hodgkin's and Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma, visit the Lymphoma Research Center. [link]
